I Miss My Surfer Boy Too (Hard to Find 45)

Another Hard to Find 45 post! This post is dedicated to the tune “I Miss My Surfer Boy Too” by The Westwoods, which was the musical answer to the song “NY’s a Lonely Town,” told from the perspective of the love-lorned girlfriend back home is Los Angeles. The track was written by Jack Keller and produced by Jack Nitzsche, who many put into the same category as Phil Spector and Brian Wilson. Unfortunately, Nitzsche’s name recognition isn’t as prevalent as Wilson and Spector, but his body of work speaks for itself – Nitzsche worked with everyone from Neil Young to Buffalo Springfield to The Rolling Stones.

Nitzsche’s wife, Gracia Nitzsche, and Marilyn Wilson of The Honey’s sang leads on this Westwood track. To say that this is a rare 45 is no misnomer. The 45 was only released as a promotional copy, and it’s extremely hard to get.

Best Coast is dying to cover this track, they just don’t know it yet.
